Day 24 found us at our favorite indoor play place, and we were lucky enough to be there during “Adventure Time” where they have a story, craft and cooking activity all centered around one theme. The Tyrant never participates in the story part, he just won’t sit still in a room full of other children and ends up being disruptive. But when possible we do try to do the craft and cooking activities. He was really good about this for a change, which led to trying a couple of different things. The first being using glue for the first time, which went far better than I could have imagined (meaning he only tried to eat it a couple of times). The second, instead of doing the usual cookies for the cooking activity, they made princess pops (marshmallow dipped in melted chocolate and sprinkles). Obviously this was a huge hit, with the dipping phase he is going through, and it made me think that it’s time to start coming up with activities like this at home.
How do you get your children involved in cooking? At what age did you start letting them help in the kitchen?
